Here’s another thing about being a CPA: Contrary to myths, you don’t have to be a math genius! In fact, although math skills are important for anyone to have, you only need average level math knowledge to excel as a CPA. However, once you are a CPA, your math skills will almost certainly improve. Don’t get into this field if you’re number-phobic, though. The math is there, and it’s unavoidable. This is, after all, an industry based around facts and figures. Just remember, communication skills, creativity, and a good work ethic are … Read more
If you are anything like me then you may have thought that the best paid jobs were to be found in the stock market or working as a lawyer or attorney or selling discount car insurance. Well, think again. The highest paying jobs in America are almost all found in the healthcare sector, although to be fair they tend to be at the top of the profession – medical assistants for example are not in the top 10 but then again they are not in the bottom 10 either. So by and large healthcare jobs are a good bet if you are wondering which career to go for, pharmacy technicians would be another alternative for a steady job. Nice list of areas of employment. I guess as most of us realise that to really have a secure income to support us and our family in these difficult times is create diversification of income streams. It is whom you know where I live. I know a few upper crust lawyers, politicians, and a few powerful ministers of churches WHO DO NOT beg for money for themselves, but orphans, homeless, and those who cannot fend for themselves.

I’m sure there are still jobs in engineering that offer very high pay. I’m just looking at the high-paid positions in one of my own career fields. Marketing is a field with a lot of lower-level positions, so I wanted to inspire those who are either in it, or interested in it, … Read more
This autumn, the Early Career Blog is undergoing various changes, not least in the colour & choice of font. Whilst we make further changes, I am expanding & updating for 2016 some of the most popular posts – starting with this advice on structuring a cover letter for academic jobs. Below is a skeleton structure for a two-page cover letter, suitable for lectureships & similar positions in the UK as well as at research-intensive universities overseas. If you’re applying to a research-only job, then you could simply omit the two teaching paragraphs. This post is a companion to my last piece about preparing for an academic interview and is a re-posting of my latest piece to appear on the Guardian Higher Education Network ‘s website. I’ve trawled the archives to pick out common yet tricky questions, and I offer some ideas for how to handle them.
Whether physically or mentally ill, many homeless people are disabled by their illnesses. I’ve read the criticisms and assertions that those with mental illness just need to straighten up and get a job. The problem is that anyone mentally ill enough to be sleeping in a cardboard box isn’t fit to work a job … Read more
It’s time to polish up that resume. Vol State will be hosting dozens of area employers for the Spring Job Career Fair this Wednesday, April 19. The fair provides an opportunity for job seekers to talk directly with the people responsible for hiring. Participants are encouraged to bring several copies of their resumes. Everyone is invited to attend. Many new MTs see that companies require 2+ years experience to be hired and pass that company by without bothering to test with them. It is important to understand the reason why companies say that is because they don’t want people applying who have no training. Yes, they do prefer that you have a couple of years experience, but they will still hire you if you do well on their tests and interview.
If you’re interested pickup a book and download a free compiler. See if you are interested, if you can pick it up and you enjoy it. If so then you may want to consider going into it. This one doesn’t add to the actual game play, but it’s definitely a must-have if you’re a generations-type player, or anyone who plays the game for more than a few days.

I’m an ENFP and an accountant by profession, an auditor in particular. Back in college, I thought that I would be able to love my chosen degree because it is prestigious and promising, plus knowing my family would be proud of me if I earned my CPA title.
It’s easier for people to think that the homeless are just lazy and prefer to live on handouts. It gives people a sense of control over their own lives, thinking that it cannot happen to them because they are not lazy and do have jobs. Thanks for this lens. Very stereotype-breaking.

The Job and Career Information Center is located in the Business, Science, and Technology department on the first floor of the Central Library at 400 Cathedral Street. Turn left as you enter the building. Try editing your shots to determine what shows off your work the best. You might want to show the finished shot and then the original image and then back to the finished shot. This is showing the before and after so it’s clear what you changed or added. If it’s a complex shot you could quickly show the build up of each element. Look at some of the behind the scene DVD’s to get a sense for this. Don’t spend the entire DVD breaking down one shot. The point here is to show the complexity and finished quality of a number of shots, not to teach them.

I am a former LEGOLAND Master Model Builder. In fact, I was one of the winners of LEGOLAND California’s first Model Builder Search. I can honestly say that it was a job that used and challenged all my abilities. It was fun, exciting, creative, and at times stressful, but I was always very passionate about my job. Most service members easily accept this. I did. Even though I knew what I believed in, I also knew it wasn’t fair to use my uniform to push my personal beliefs on anyone else. The people who love to sell their beliefs wrapped in a flag with a pretty yellow ribbon on top will be annoyed to see that their rights to free speech are tossed right out the window.
There’s nothing that motivates me more than being told by someone else that they don’t think I can do something. I can’t quite explain it, but somehow it activates in me a ridiculous desire to prove that person wrong. I emailed Rick back, explaining that I certainly could do the job, that I was willing to prove it to him and then asked when he’d like to interview me for it (damn, I … Read more

NOTE: Each player’s earnings mostly differ from the popularity of the game he/she plays. This article is mainly focused on portraying the gaming scenes of Starcraft and League of Legends. I also believe in looking for ways to enable students to learn from the assessments I use. Every major project is turned in for feedback before the final submission. For each exam during the semester, students are allowed to earn back some of the lost points by explaining where they went wrong and how to do the problem correctly. By giving myself some flexibility on how much of the grade students can earn back, I find I that I can give very challenging exams without needing to grade on a curve. Grading on a curve is a practice I consider to be particularly pernicious because it communicates to students that they are competing against each other, that what matters is less how much you have learned than how much better you can perform than your neighbor.
