It was more than a few years ago when I first read Sheryl Sandberg’s book Lean In: Women, Work And The Will To Lead , but one of the book’s themes has resonated with me since. Sandberg thoughtfully shares that it is better to think in terms of a career jungle gym” rather than a career ladder.” Ladders have traditionally been a metaphor to describe career growth, but this is 2017, and I can assure new graduates that success will come from a jungle gym of career turns and leaps. These maneuverers may seem risky in the moment, but will guide you to success as long as you do your part by always demonstrating excellent work ethic, integrity, and a willingness to learn. An advertising agency will employ writers who have the job of thinking of ideas for TV commercials. If you are good at always coming up with ideas for TV commercials then maybe you should consider a career in advertising. If you are scared your pussy ass doesn’t need to join. It is obviously something that not everyone can put up with. They treat you the way they do to get you mentally tough for the times you are in war and people are dying around you. You need to be able to do what is told to make sure not only survival of yourself but of the squad,platoon, company etc. If you are weak minded and weak in general joining the military isn’t for you.

It’s no surprise that careers matching the Social personality type are growing quickly with our aging population needing health care and our expanding community, education, and family needs. I understand that we get annoyed by people calling us on phones, sending us spam and trying to sell something when we are in a traffic jam, but thinking about them, they actually are trying to make a dime. Perhaps they do not have a degree or a white collar job, we should really do not detest them, whether buying or not buying.
My last year at Penn State, 1993-94, I surveyed students in one of these large lecture sections to try to understand their experience. I found that most of them were very conscientious about studying, usually spending about two hours each evening that followed class going over that day’s lesson. But I also found that most of them had no idea how to study. They would read through their notes, paying particular attention to the problems that had been worked out in class, and then they would tackle problems from the end of that section, practicing the techniques that they had seen demonstrated. Monday, May 2 is my last day of teaching. Not that I will never step into a classroom again, but it marks the end of my full-time employment by Macalester College. My responsibilities for the future will not require any teaching. I am looking forward to the freedom this phased retirement will bring to focus on my writing and other educational activities, but I also approach this date with some sense of loss. For forty years, I have defined myself as a teacher first. I am taking advantage of this column to reflect on a few of the lessons I have learned over these four decades in the classroom. Here is a plethora of resources for all you hippies, bohemians, and free spirits who are trying to build better lives for yourselves and your families. We have different career strengths to other personalities and this means that there are some career areas that they are very well suited for. While it is important to affirm and visualize the perfect job opportunity coming your way, it is equally important to take action. Just as you will never win anything in the lottery if you don’t buy a ticket, you won’t find the perfect job if you don’t get out there and actively look for it. From standing up in front of a crowd and telling jokes to spending the spending the day working with deadly diseases, a number of jobs are just too scary for some employees to even fathom. And it appears I will have to come back to leave my squidlike, as I am at my daily limit!
I done my time, barely could stand it, the amount of human borderline stupidity is amazing! I can’t stand it when one mamas boy starts whining that it’s hard…NO IT’S NOT YOU PATHETIC IDIOT, deal with it. My daughter started college this month and it is good to see that her career path is on here.
